Dr. Isha Garg is a core team member of the Digital Innovation Lab at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore where her main focus is on Public Health research and development projects. She plays the role of collaborator, mentor and advisor to the young team at DI Lab.
She is working on researching issues of concern in Maternal and Child Health with a specific emphasis on Menstrual Hygiene, and in helping develop digital innovations that could potentially address some of the issues in these areas.
Dr. Isha was earlier a Professor and former Head of Pathology at St. John's Medical College (SJMC), Bangalore. She has over 33 years of experience in Pathology, having joined SJMC in 1981 and retiring in November 2014.
She studied at Christian Medical College, Vellore for an MBBS degree and the MD (Pathology) degree.
Besides her interest in Anatomic Pathology, Dr. Isha has always had a keen interest in the application of ICT technologies in the practice of medicine and especially in public health.
In pursuance of her interest beyond Pathology, Dr. Isha spent one year, on sabbatical from St. John's, as a Reuters Digital Vision Fellow in Stanford University’s Digital Vision Program on Social Entrepreneurship in 2006-07, where she collaborated on a mobile data collection system for Disease Surveillance.
Dr. Isha has earlier had short stints as a Visiting Observer in Pathology at Harvard University School of Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine and at Stanford University School of Medicine.
While retirement was planned to be spent exploring the world through travel and in spending quality time with her children and grand-children, professional and other interests continue to hold sway.
